Help Brockman Celebrate Earth Day

On Monday, each level got to participate in a special Earth Day activity. Primary students learned how important the seemingly insignificant worm is to our environment in its role as nature’s composter. We got our hands dirty in a greenhouse meet-and-greet with our squiggly friends, read a book about worms, and took home a zinnia seedling to plant at home.  The lower el students learned about the importance of recycling even small pieces of plastic. They saw a presentation with many examples of how artists have recycled and upcycled forgotten or unloved materials and then got to make their own art out of recycled plastic caps. The upper el students watched three presentations by the Sanders Montessori Middle School students discussing the Gills Creek Watershed and how it works, the environmental impact of plastic on wildlife and ecosystems, and the value of eating local on the environment and local economy. Thank you to Leigh Wilke, Sanders science teacher, Jessica Lathren, Patti Walker and Tara Felder for leading the 3 different levels.

What will your family do this year to reduce your footprint on the environment? Discuss it at dinner tonight! (See all the pics below)
